Default Stolen ECM??

Hello everyone.

Need some help. My girlfriend's 2000 Acura Integra (LS 1.8 3 door) was broken into yesterday. The thief pulled out a unit that is located on the wall near the passenger's feet, below the glove box. With some basic investigation, I think this is the ECM (or is it called the ECU?). When trying to start the car, it just struggles almost like a bad starter. It just tries to turn over, but can't. Anyway, I am looking for someone to confirm that this is what was stolen.

If this is the part I need, then does anyone know where I can get one for a reasonable price? Just to see, I already called a local dealership and sked for a replacement ECM to see what to expect and they quoted over $700. So, I am looking for info to be sure I order the right part, and then maybe get a tip on where to get one for less then the dealership's price.

Thanks for any help!

OBD-II non-GS-R ECU's are pretty worthless in the overall scheme of things, you can probably find a used one around $50-75 here or on thepartstrader.com.

The engine's not going to start without the ECU. That's what controls the amount of fuel going into it (among other things), and with no ECU you have no fuel. No fuel, no start.

If you want to get a new one for cheap, search for "obd2 p75" on ebay. This is an example of what you should look for.

Keep in mind that you will need to make sure it's out of a car from model years '00 or '01. If you buy a '96-'99 ECU the plug will be slightly different from your car's wiring harness.

One other issue I'm thinking of is the immobilizer function of the ECU. I believe there is a chip in your key which "talks" to the ECU and if the key and ECU don't match then the car won't start. I would check with a dealer to see if they have the capability to match up an ECU with the key or vice versa.

that's what happened to my brothers "new" car. the shop i work at had a car towed in. the guy told us that he's not sure what's wrong with it, it just wont start. after checking it out, we found out that not only were the airbags stolen, but the ECU also. the guy said he didnt want to try and get all that fixed, so we were able to buy it from him for really cheap (the car that is) my brother got a ECU from ebay and the thing started right up.

so i guess you wouldn't be interested in a 94 OBD-I p75??? heh

but stealing an LS ECU is probably the dumbest theft I ever heard of.

Thanks for confirming that it was the ECU that was stolen. Can someone now explain in more detail the need for an immoblizer? Was this stolen as well? Is it bundled with the ECU?

Thanks.

If the car started and drove, it apparently doesn't need a new immobilizer unit.

We ordered a used ECU and hooked it up, but it still does not work. We heard from an Acura dealership that it is not the immobilizer. We also heard that it could be that the ECU is missing a chip. Can anyone explain any more of this? Of course, it could be a bad ECU.

Does anyone have any recommendations from here? This is all rather frustrating.

Thanks for all the help so far.
