My 5th synchro is shot too, a new trans according to Acura is ~$2100, a 5th gear synchro and hub should be a few hundred bucks in parts.
Do yourself a favor and change the fluid and replace it with Honda MTF, and that should help your grinding. Eventually though, the synchro set will have to be replaced.

thanks for the feed back... ive also heard good stuff about the gmc syncro mesh i believe thats what its called.. but the weird thing is it only happens when im going from vtec in third to 5th skiping 4th i dont know why i do it but sometimes i do... but any other time it doesnt do it
Redline MTF...I've had mixed results with it. At first, it felt great. Within a few months, it was terrible. When drained, it was actually foaming.
I'm happy w/honda mtf again. Try the redline stuff and see how it works for you.

It's quite easy to do. There's a plug underneath, at the bottom of the case, you drain the fluid, put the plug back in, remove another plug a little further up on the tranny case and fill with gear oil just until it's level with that upper plug hole, then put the plug back in. It'll take about 2.2 litres to fill it. If you drive the car hard i'd say to change your fluid a couple times a year, or maybe even after every HPDE you do if you use Honda MTF, and once a year if you drive casually. You can't be too careful with your tranny, it seems many people overlook changing the fluid often.
no problem. It's quite a bit easier if you have access to a lift, but still doable without. You shouldn't really have any problems, but a good idea would be to attach about 1-2 feet of hose to the end of a funnel to pour the fluid. I'm not sure what diameter of hose to use, basically small enough to fit in the plug hole, but big enough that the oil will flow through at a decent rate. If you don't make this you may have a really hard time getting the fluid in. Hope that helps you some.
