Default Strip my Integra!

It's time to strip it, or what's left of it. First question is, what would you recommend to get the sound deadening material out. I'm not wanting to put some huge scraps in the metal, as I'm very...particular...about how it will look, both inside and out.

Put dry ice on the tar, let it sit for a while, and then smack it with a hammer. Hopefully it will break into pieces and release itself from the metal. You can scrape off the remaining chunks with a putty knife ... I got one with a beveled edge from the hardware store that worked great. Once all the big pieces are out, spray all the little left-over pieces with WD-40 ... this will basically disolve the remaining tar. Wipe everything up with paper towels. Spray everything down with Simple Green or glass cleaner to clean up the WD-40 and you're done.

While a bit long, I've found this method to be one of the easiest and cleanest ways to remove the tar/sound deadening.

I like it. Cost-effective too.

yup. dry ice is the way to do it... it should just break up into sheets and come right off the metal. Like breaking thin ice

Then all you gotta do is clean up in the spots where theres still some left.

I did my GTi with a heat gun and a half-dozen putty knives... in the middle of August 1999...outdoors. What posessed me to do that job during a 98°F weekend with no wind....I'll never know.

In a word.... DOH!

I still have burn marks & scars from that job, even though the car is long, long, long gone...

In fact, it's now probably an Amana refrigerator. :chuckles:
