Default 95 GSR tranny problems please help!!

OK heres the deal I have a 95 GSR with 151,000 miles on it. The other day I started noticing that when I shifting from 2nd to 3rd I got a grinding noise. But it only does it when im going over 4500 RPM anyhting under it doesnt do it anything after it does. I changed the fluid about a year and a half ago using full synthetic 10W30 motor oil. I have been told that it is probabaly the blocker ring going bad. I mean how long should that tranny last?? If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. thanks shwnoff@msn.com

:eek3: You put 10W30 motor oil in your transmission?? The grinding is probably coming from high mileage but, I would drain that oil asap and put Honda MTF (manual transmission fluid).

definitely get the Honda MTF in there, ASAP! That tranny should last another 50K miles or more. It could also be a syncro, since they do spin UP the gears for high-rev shifting.

You guys are all scared of 10W30 like it's the plague or something. Up through '93, that's exactly what the Helms manual said to put into Honda transmissions. It certainly won't ruin the gearbox, that's for sure.

On possible cause of this problem is simply that the clutch is not grabbing as quickly as it used to, which causes the grinding on that shift. Otherwise your 3rd gear synchro might be wearing out.

Yea I'd say synchro. You can in fact use 10w30 oil, too. But I'd drain it and put GM synchromesh in there, a lot of people have had their grinding cured by this fluid.
