idle question
alright im not even sure if idle is the right term for what is happening to my car.but anyways I was driving on the freeway today and was driving pretty fast in fourth gear. when I noticed that my RPM started shooting up when I was gunning it. at first I didn't think too much of it cause I thought it was just in the cluster (maybe messed up or something) but then I started hearing it in the engine ( like it would shoot up and then come back to where it's supposed to be). could this have anything to do with the fuel pump cause I had a fuel cut off switch installed in my car. any help is appreciated.

its a manual;
if it was a problem with the fuel cut-ff switch the RPM's would drop down instead of shooting up. Unless the wireing on the cut-off switch is cauding it to give it too much fuel

No... the only thing a fuel cutoff switch could do is decrease the amount of fuel through increased resistance to the fuel pump, thus less power and less likely to rev freely.
In a manual car, if you apply more gas, the RPM goes up, but the speed stays the same, then I'd have to cast an eye at your clutch. How many miles does it have?

well the car has 74000 miles on it but im pretty sure I found out what the problem is. I installed a kill switch that goes straight to the starter so I tried driving normaly and it did it again. so I wiggled the switch and it did the same thing. im going to rewire the kill switch soon so that this wont happen again. thanks for your help guys.

it should have nothing to do with your starter..... once your car is started, its job is done. i also think it sounds like your clutch is slipping... sounds like a good chance to upgrade to me... maybe get an LSD while you're at it, if you have the extra money
