Could fuel cutoff switch affect performance?

I would have used at least 14ga for the job, 12 or 10 would be even better. It is the fuel pump afterall, bad things happen when it doesn't work.
The easy way to test if it's bad is to just jump the wire you spliced into back together. I've made jumper wires my self for reasons like this.
