The previous generation Z body style (as used on the Z3) was available as the M Roadster. It had the 240 hp motor from the E36 M3. I don't know how fast the M Roadster is, because the magazines usually test the coupe versions. The E36 M3 Coupe generally tested in the high fives 0-60, and in the fourteens in the quarter mile, roughly half a second faster in each case than an ITR. I would assume that the M Roadster was heavier and slower than the E36 M3 Coupe, because convertibles usually are.
If this was the 3.0 liter Z4 model, its about as fast as the s2000, but has more torque due to the larger motor. If it was the newer M roadster (00-03), they come with a 3.2 liter 315hp motor, which is very quick.

Remember, like most VTEC cars, the S2000 has a gearing advantage that compensates for its torque disadvantage. You can read more about why this is important here. (The S2000 also weighs 300+ pounds less than the M Roadster.)
