The new Z body style (the Z4) is not available in an M version. Maybe he just bought an M badge and slapped it on.

The previous generation Z body style (as used on the Z3) was available as the M Roadster. It had the 240 hp motor from the E36 M3. I don't know how fast the M Roadster is, because the magazines usually test the coupe versions. The E36 M3 Coupe generally tested in the high fives 0-60, and in the fourteens in the quarter mile, roughly half a second faster in each case than an ITR. I would assume that the M Roadster was heavier and slower than the E36 M3 Coupe, because convertibles usually are.
