I remember hearing there are illegal in VA. Any truth to this?

Thanks.

Matt- who can't wait for the expo even if he has to drive near the speed limit while there

Radar detectors are not allowed in the Dominion.

I don't think they're confiscated on sight anymore, but it's a whopping extra ticket if you get caught w/one.

On the other hand, speed limits are enforced with a degree of common sense.

If you're driving over 80 in a 65, you will get a ticket. If you're driving 73 in a 65, it's very unlikely you'll get a ticket.

But yes, you can speed within reason..

now, I wouldn't say you will be ok if you speed. Some will be lucky, others won't be as lucky..... Just use your head and be carefull.

Thanks for your replys. I just couldn't remember where the line was on the use of radar detectors.

Looks like I will have to be on my best behavior (tickets, $80 or not, are still no good)

It should be pointed out that anything over 80mph gets a wreckless driving ticket. Don't expect to pay fine on the spot and go on your merry way... wreckless ticket = court appearance.

I think 90+ is mandatory incarceration, isn't it?

heh i got a ticket in January of '03 going 93 in a 55 and got busted. The cop just gave me a ticket and told me to slow down. and asked me y i was going so fast. He probably could have arrested me but the worst part was i couldn't take defensive driving and had to pay the ticket which went on my record as over 25 over the limit and increased my insurance i think 30% for the next 3 years.

Would anyone know how to lower this by anychance? anything i could do to drop my rate a little?
