My advice: just dont use it. Keep it unplugged. You have to keep in mind that Virginia uses radar detector detectors. Many redar detectors can get around the VG-2 Radar detector detector, but there is a new one they use called Spectre-II which they cannot get around. Spectre-II is able to detect virtually all radar detectors. Just use your head-- as long as its turned on, they can still get your for the detector even if you arent speeding.

Would anyone know how to lower this by anychance? anything i could do to drop my rate a little?
Now? No. Too bad you didn't try to get out of it (or get the charges reduced) in court, when the case was being heard...

Could u use it until u got some radar signals and then turn it off? or will u'r radar even detect one of those radar radar detectors.

Radar detectors are illegal in VA and Washington DC. Every other state they're legal...if you get stopped doing more than 73 in a 65 and a cop sees a radar detector, the ticket will be more moolah.

Not true - not in most states, anyway.

Well, I should have said it also depends on the cop and his mood at that moment in time. if he see's you speeding in 30 degree rainy weather, he's probably going to be more pissed off and might just give you a bigger ticket because of it.

Meaning what? If he catches you doing 80 in a 55, he's going to give you a ticket for 90 if he sees a radar detector?

Granted, cops don't like detectors, and you might be more likely to get out of a ticket if they don't see one - but even if they see one, they're not going to "give you a bigger ticket because of it".

Why is it that VA is particularly harsh (more so than other states) on speeding and radar?

revolution8k is correct. In the United States, the use of radar detectors in cars is illegal only in Virginia and D.C. Click here for a reference. They are legal in the rest of the United States, although you are correct that they are also illegal in Canada.

At one time, they were illegal in Connecticut, but that law was repealed in the mid to late nineties.
