Anybody know where I can get a detailed description as to how to change your own tranny fluid. I've heard GM Syncromesh (Friction Mod) works wonders and am planning on doing it myself. Thanks in advance.....

It's easy, but I'm not going to describe it until you give us a very good reason why you want to use something other than Honda MTF.

I'm entirely aware of that thread, some other threads, and I know the supporters of the product personally.

So...why do you want to use it? Are you actually having synchro problems, or what?

People are jumping on a bandwagon supporting an expensive non-Honda product. My gear box is just fine after thousands of miles of track use at the hands of fairly abusive drivers.

ITR gearboxes are know to be choppy (1st to 2nd) (and especially 2nd to 3rd) so why not use a non-honda product if it will result in smoother transitions? Why not try a different product and figure out for yourself whether or not it's all "hype". I understand it's a good idea to stick w/ the manufacturers suggested product, but in some cases products stamped w/ a Honda emblem are garbage to begin with. Just look at the new oil filters, manufactured by Fram. Way too much of a resemblance to the ones you can find in your every day wal-mart. In reply to your question, no I don't have syncro problems, but my R has been pampered since the day it was bought, only has 12,000 miles on it, and the shifts are definitely choppy. Trying a different product isn't exactly "jumping on the bandwagon", and if it doesn't work out ,you'll be the first to know.

I object to the premise. Can't get past the first line.

In my opinion, the ITR gearbox is wonderful, and nothing close to what could be called "choppy."

George is the site elder and set in his way. Let him have that pleasure.

Honestly and to George's dismay I use GM Synchromech FM in my transmission. I changed about a month ago and it does seem to have helped my 2-3 grind situation. One thing to consider GK is that GM can't make a car or transmission worth a damn so they have to compensate with nice products to counter balance the car itself.

There is a post on Honda-tech that b18c5-eh made about how to do the tranny fluid. You coudl just use a shop manual as well. I did fill through the VSS instead of the fill hole.
