How much hp translates to the wheels on a type r? i know its 200 at the crank, but im interested to see how much actually gets put onto the pavement. oh hi, great forums! i get my type r some time next week, hella excited!!

 

figure 15%-18% drivetrain loss. ALso it will be 195 Hp and if you are figuring a JDM B18C5 I believe the Hp rating is closer to 197 (200 is in ps not hp)

Depending on year of the car will determine about how much hp at the wheels you will see. Figure 158-162 for a 98 and 164-170 for a 2000/2001

Why does the 98 have less HP that 00/01?
And have you any idea why my bone stock ,40.000km 98 was dynoed at 150hp.
this sucks , but when I auto-x my car kills 00 and 01.
What gives....BTW the car is top tune...plugs, cap rotor....oil level...timing...?????

 

You car could rate lower depending on the dyno you were on. Either it wasn't a dyno jet or your dyno jeft creates more loss. Not a big deal is you kill the 00/01's

The 98's had a weaker intake cam (and I suspect slightly less agressive fuel maps in the ECU). THis accounted for my 1998 R making 160 stock on the same dyno my old 2000 R made 168 stock.

I would not stress it. Just use the same dyno for power comparisons or if you have an opportunity try a different dyno to see what sort of power it makes.

 

thanks, that's what I thought and the car does feel strong, so no sweat.

But I always thought power was equal on all ITR's, am I wrong?

 

I would guess a 2000/2001 R has 4-5 whp more than a 97/98 R on average.

 

Your right from all the info I have seen. The 00-01 are definatley stronger.

 

I hope so . . . Take if from a guy that has put 15,000 miles on each one (98 and a 2000). The 2000 felt stronger and on the same dyno was stornger.

I have since made a lot of changes to my 98 R and hope to see it easily surpass the 2000. I have over come all the weaknesses.

 

Some other differences between the 97 and 98 ITRs and the newer ones, is that not only did they change the computers to accomodate for the longer durration in the intake cam, but in addition they also use a whole different harness, funny enough, the motor still uses all the same sensors..... Go figure. In any case, they switched intake cams because honda wanted to save on production costs, so they just started using Civic Type-R intake cams, this way they only needed to produce one set of type-r cams since both the exhaust cams were already identical. If you have a 97 or 98 you can easily switch out the intake cam for either a newer ITR cam 00' and up, or a 98' and up civic type-r intake cam, we dynoed it out to be anywhere from 5-7whp just drop in, on the three that we've tested.
