Default question about afc

My buddy's got an e30 BMW. His GF wants me to help her find him a gift, something along the lines of a g-tech. I told her for that money, better of going with an AFC. My question is, being more about hondas than bimmers, do the apexi AFC units work on BMW? Does universal mean they'll work with ANY car? If so are they hard to install?

Sorry, not much of an Integra question but hey, u guys know what you're talking about.

thanks!

Hi Charles. I became interested in E30's a while ago (specifically the M3), and spent a good deal of time on S14.net. In terms of the more basic electronics upgrades (excluding stand-alone engine management), one of the most popular choices is the Jim Conforti ECU chip. You can find them easily by searching Google, and they're priced similarly to the AFC you were asking about. Plus, they're basically plug-and-play, and don't require a dyno to realize gains.

The AFC and the G-Tech are 2 completely different products?

One is an air/fuel controller, and the other is a time recorder with some other gadgety features.

An AFC isn't going to do anything performance wise unless it is tuned. Chips are pretty popular with the Bimmer folks, as those ECUs tend to be less optimized from the factory than what Honda usually puts out.

Thanks for the reply guys,
Thing is, hes already got a chip, but hes planning on going turbo so he prolly would have needed an afc anyways. As long as it'll work with any car, i'm gonna hook that up for sure.

As far as the g-tech goes, I don't know what his plan was, but he wanted to tune it with the g-tech? Dun make sense to me but thats what he wanted to do.

How do these things work anyways? ... I'm having trouble understanding how they're universal. Are you supposed to hardwire it using ECU pinouts? If they're designed to intercept a sensor signal, wouldn't you need a full pinout diagram of ur ecu?

and what about MAP and MAF sensors? ... are they treated the same?

If he's planning on forced induction, he's probably going to want something like an Alpha N that will allow the elimination of the MAF. Of course, that's a bit pricier than the S-AFC.
