Why Am I Failing Emissions???
Aight guys im baffled. I posted a thread recently asking for help to figure out why i was failing emissions, we all thought it was the cat so i replaced my cat, yet i am still failing emissions. My friend whos my mechanic thinks its my VAFC, i have it set real lean right now but i still produce too many hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide at 25 mph. I produce 197 HC ppm and the limit is 115 and produce 2.08% carbon monoxide and the limit is .65!!! What the hell is going wrong? I did an induction service, redid the timing, and put on a new cat. Any other ideas, should i just hook up the wiring directly to the stock ECU and just bypass the VAFC? Give me some ideas i am in need of serious help.
Yeah, unless the car is heavily modified I would take out the VAFC and give it a shot.
Otherwise you could always go to an auto parts store and get that Guaranteed To Pass stuff that you dump in your gas tank.

is there any way to disconnect the VAFC without unsplicing all the wires? just double-checking before i waste my time doing that. Also could i be failing because of a bad 02 sensor? how would i go about checking if my O2 sensor was bad? Please don't ignore this thread, sometimes it seems like i get disrespected on this site
i dont remember if youre the same guy as last time, but if youre engine temp is too high, then you;ll; fail the sniffer test. if youre running lean, thatll increase your enigne temp. but then again who knnwos what im babblinmg about right now. im drunk.. but seriosuly if youre too lean, your engine temp will go up and youll produce too much nox.
with a new converter and running the afc lean and your still failing it sounds like it MAY be a bad o2 sensor.
the o2 sensor can be bad and NOT set the check engine light. i see that happen ALLOT.......
also check to see that the engine is getting up to operating temperature. make sure the engine coolant is toped up. the engine has to be hot and converter fully warmed up to get the most accurate readings.

i threw a code about 3 months ago but it never came back, only happened once when i started her up. i figured it was just a glitch since it never returned. It was for my O2 sensor how do i check if the 02 sensor is bad?
