Default weird temp guage

alright, i was driving my car around the block, and then i popped the hood. the heater core coolant hose had a hole in it, so i duct taped it for temp purposes and ran to the auto store to buy a new hose. i undid the old hose, and put on the new one, and then put some more antifreeze in for the amount that i lost through the punctured hose. i then drive it to the auto store again, to buy a new wiper blade, and on the way there, my temp guage goes all wacky. when im idling, it will slowly rise up. and if im giving it moderate gas, like keeping it below 3k rpm's it will go back to normal. anyone have any suggestions on wtf is going on here? i put coolant/water back in so, that isnt the problem. im thinking it could be the thermostat, but i didnt do anything that would **** it up. also, could it be the heater valve being stuck? ill check that tonite. thx in advance.

shit, my accord used to do that..... We'd replace thermostats, hoses, etc..

headgasket might need to be replaced. Thats what the main issue was with my car, anyways. But the symptoms were the same (heating up, but gas makes it go back down).

after a while, honda's coolent systems seem to go to shit. It's a trend I've noticed.....

you could try replacing your themostat, but I dunno if it will do alot of good. I'd get that headgasket checked out asap, tho. You don't want that going out on you.....

mine has been going wackey on me for the past 2 months
i thought it was just due to the cold COLD weather we got here in ontario

but i dont know?

my problem is that the temp is always showing almost on freezing cold.. only when i sit and idle for a coffee or whatnot.. it will go to normal(middle)
wtf is wrong with mine?

well, i was addressing the original poster, since he described what he did immediately prior to the issues, and that's what i figure is wrong. in your case, i'm not sure if it's the same. do you remember doing any kind of work prior to the symptoms? being stuck on cold suggests that your thermostat is not closing.

drain your coolant, flush it out, and then refill. might as well check on your thermostat while youre at it.
