Brake upgrades
I'm about to upgrade my piddly '95 Civic DX f/r brakes to a '95 teg GSR f/r set. I want to upgrade the rotors and wanted to know which is best - slotted, drilled, both?
What brand would you go with? I'm looking at Brembo, but they're about $150 for fronts and about $120 for rears.
I don't plan to do any autoXing, just drag racing and daily driving. I'll be going with AEM/Nissin pads as I've only had good experience with them.
Any input would be great!

Believe it or not, most road race guys I know, as well as myself, would recommend staying with OEM rotors. Any upgrade from there would be to Brembo blanks. I'll even go one step further and say that I know of some ITR guys who see frequent track use who purchase the cheapest rotors available from Auto Zone. For $40, I did the same and have had these rotors on for over a year. Any wear noticed makes it cheap to replace and I can stock up on them because of the low price. While I do not know all of the exact details of why slotted/drilled is not the best choice (gas expansion, cracking, etc.), I have found that using OEM rotors is the most economical method, and allows me to spend more of my money on top notch pads. Most people I know who do the same thing I do would say that you're not really going to see any increased "performance" from a rotor until you say upgrade to some exotic material.

I would get whatever blank rotor you want. Adnie at Cobalt has some that are decently priced and do well on track and off.
I WHOLE HEARTEDLY agree with Daniel about the Cobalt GT Sport. For street/Auto-x this is THE pad to have IMO. I have a set on my R currently. Ultimates are not nearly aggressive enough. Cobalts are pretty affordable and Andie is a great retailer.

I have been very happy with the ultimates. They dust a bit, but the stopping power is greatly improved. Drilled or slotted rotors are much more difficult to turn, drilled prone to cracking. Your money would be better spent on the braided lines , like from Goodridge and on upgraded fluid(Higher boiling point). Of course, if you are drag racing, you only have to make one stop in arow and this might all be overkill

There's a local fitting shop here that I can get steel braided lines made from. I recently bought 6 feet of 1/4" steel braide line for $30. :goodjob:
They made me a 1.5' line for my oil press. gauge recently for about $8 with the fittings. I'm going to get my lines from them.
I think I'll pick up the blanks from the group buy above and go with soem of the GT Sports. I'm getting so tired of brake fade and the peddal shudder I get from the brakes I have now.
I have Brembo x-drilled/slotted stock replacements up front with all AEM/Nissin pads. The pads have lasted a REALLY long time, but they just can't handle the fast braking I have to do when I get done with my runs. I trap about 115 mph and have about 1/8 mi. to slow down to make the u-turn. I sometimes worry that I won't be able to slow down in time. :nervous:
I'll put these components together and let you know what I think. I'll probably be putting together a DIY on the teg upgrade.
