Default Question about Cams

Looking to buy some high performance cams, but I don't know what to go with? I know there are alot of companies out there. Looking for a cam the will give me good performance like quick acceleration. A good 12 sec cam. A cam the will give me linear power throughout the powerband. One that won't loose low end torque, but still have a killer vtec. This cam would be for a 96 GS-R with JDM ITR pistons with a compression ratio of 11.1.
Thanks,
Matt

Also Maybe lookin at a cam for power at the top end any suggestions for this type too?

To be honest, I don't much about cams, but from what the more experienced people say, crower makes the best cams... check em out... crower.com

if you want a cam that will give you top end power, check out the toda vtec killer cams. if you get these cams it will disable the vtec on your engine though. h:

if not check out http://www.importreview.com/performance.html for some reviews and dyno charts of different cam setups

I hope you were kidding on recommending the vtec killer cams because these are a race only cam meaning they will not idle and they have absolutely no low end power at all. To actually break 12's all motor is going to be pretty hard, I'd say impossible with a 11:1 CR. You're going to need to bump it to 12 to get the most. With toda spec b's you might be able to do it with some good driving but not these are not a drop in cam. You need to do a lot of other work. You'll need to properly size your header and exhaust. Get a larger tb to help your engine breath. Headwork is also important. Also, lots and lots of tuning. I know someone making 220hp at the wheels all motor and has yet to break into the 12's. He's come close however.

the toda spec b cams are good top end but going with what tom said, cams alone aren't just a bolt on affair. to maximize the cams effectiveness, all other aspects must be considered. Most "jakes" out there buy a set of cams and bolt them on wondering why they don't "feel" much from them. Having the right header, im, tb, valvetrain, c/r, headwork and tuning is what you're looking into.

But if you are looking for a better cam than a gsr, go with the jdm itr or ctr cams.

Don;t forget these cams make more power higher up which mean you will be driving past redline which CAN be dangerous on a stock valvetrain.

HTH.

if your lookin for a 12 sec cam and you dont care about things such as rough idle then anything with a high duration and lift will do you good. JUN IIIs i heard are very good and also TODA C's but if youre lookin for streetability then Toda Bs or even CTRS will work. but remember adding cams will make your other parts synergistically so a good header and exhaust will help greatly and also upgrading the valve train will aid in gettin more air into your car. ONE LAST THING - TUNING. please tune your car at a reputable shop otherwise you will be investing hundreds of dollars into nothing. hope this helps.
