I think what he's getting at is his dad didn't want to drive that far to LOOK at a car that MIGHT be what they are looking for. He just has to sell his dad on the idea.

b_dyche is absolutely correct, my dad doesn't feel like wasting time on something that he's not 100% sure about. He knows what it is to be a kid and he's just looking out for my best interest. I mean shit, he's getting an M3 or a higher-grade BMW in the next year or less for himself, so he obviously likes the better things of life also. As for my first car, I know I'm not going to be the perfect driver, but I don't think it's fair to ride me off saying I'm going to beat up on it or I'm going to wreck it eventually. So give me some credit at least to researching my shit before I make an initial purchase.

My mother passed away and I'm aware of my future, I want a car that will last me through college and I know that an integra with below 100k will accomplish that. On a side note, I want to get some mods. done to it.

At least you're approaching things logically, and you couldn't have come to a better place for tips on a first vehicle... as most of us have had several in the past (I think I lost count after 12 or so, lol)...

It does make sense to do research, but your best bet is to get your dad to go look at vehicles in, say, a 75 mile radius... that's only an hour and a half drive each way. Just make a day of it and go car shopping, but make sure you find out as much as you can before you go... get pics, etc. through email, if possible, then your dad will be impressed on your thoroughness in looking at a vehicle, because you'll have narrowed it down to a few quality selections. Also keep in mind that you have TIME... don't jump on the first thing you see, because you'll probably be kicking yourself when you see a nicer car for less a few weeks later...

I think that's about all the advice I have for now... h:

Thanks for the advice. But could I really find better, in my eyes, a 97' GSR, 5-speed, 50k miles, for 10,900? That's exactly what I would want and how would the insurance company know that it's a GSR?

The VIN gives all the info about the car.

Also, try to find a car in the < $5000 range and save the rest of the $$$ for mods/repairs...

The insurance for a GSR will not really be that much more expensive than a non-VTEC version. Insurance companies charge out the ass for all Integras since they are the most stolen vehicle in the country. Also, you guys are treating the GSR like it's some kind of race car when it's not. Putzing around town it's just the same as an RS/LS/GS/SE until you rev it out.

Look, when I was 16 I banged up my first car in a couple of fenderbenders just like everyone else here has probably done. It's going to happen regardless of what you drive. It doesn't cost any more to do body work on a GSR and it really doesn't cost more to insure it or put gas in it. If you can convince pops to make the drive then I see no problem in going for it as long as you can exercise restraint in driving it.

The one thing I would say is that rather than buying a bunch of mods which will only encourage you to drive aggressively, drive it around nice and stock and pay the insurance. A stock GSR with a few upgrades like better tires and brake pads and such will be more than enough car for you to enjoy.

Trust me dude you will beat the hell out of it. I did with my first car and so did everyone else I know. I'm not saying that you'll wreck it but it will definetly take a beating. Your better off getting an LS I think. That's what I have and it suits me just fine. Plus being a new driver and all you don't want something with too much speed.
