b_dyche is absolutely correct, my dad doesn't feel like wasting time on something that he's not 100% sure about. He knows what it is to be a kid and he's just looking out for my best interest. I mean shit, he's getting an M3 or a higher-grade BMW in the next year or less for himself, so he obviously likes the better things of life also. As for my first car, I know I'm not going to be the perfect driver, but I don't think it's fair to ride me off saying I'm going to beat up on it or I'm going to wreck it eventually. So give me some credit at least to researching my shit before I make an initial purchase.
At least you're approaching things logically, and you couldn't have come to a better place for tips on a first vehicle... as most of us have had several in the past (I think I lost count after 12 or so, lol)...
It does make sense to do research, but your best bet is to get your dad to go look at vehicles in, say, a 75 mile radius... that's only an hour and a half drive each way. Just make a day of it and go car shopping, but make sure you find out as much as you can before you go... get pics, etc. through email, if possible, then your dad will be impressed on your thoroughness in looking at a vehicle, because you'll have narrowed it down to a few quality selections. Also keep in mind that you have TIME... don't jump on the first thing you see, because you'll probably be kicking yourself when you see a nicer car for less a few weeks later...
I think that's about all the advice I have for now...
