ball joint? or cv joint? something else??
off and on for the past few months (i know, i know) there has been a weird clunking sound coming from the front passenger side of my gsr. i replaced my clutch early in the summer (it was 1k miles before sound the started, so i doubt that it is something i screwed up. unless i screwed up a ball joint) anyway, the sound happens mostly when i go over bumps. i dont think it the click i've heard described refering to cv joints, it is a distinctive clunk. i had the car up on jacks today, and i poked around a little, but nothing looked (or felt) out of the ordinary... i'm hoping this will be affordable because i'm flat broke right now.
CV joints are on the end of your axles where they connect to your wheel hubs. When they go bad they make kind of a clicking noise that sounds like a rolling "glunk" from inside the car, when the car turns and you put your foot on the gas.
If it's some other kind of clunking coming from the suspension then it could be any number of things from a bushing that's gone bad to a ball joint to other stuff.

I have the same of sound when I step on the gas of my Integra.
Also, it only happens when the car is all warm up, after going for a couple of kms. The mechanic looked at the CV boots(replaced not to long ago) and said they were not leaking. Of course, they assumed if the CV boots are okay, the CV joints should be okay. What is it?
CV joints aren't just "on the end of your axles...". The inboard cv joints, although less prone to mechanical & boot damage, are able to "pop out" of the differential if a severe pothole is hit just right. They'll leak trans fluid, and scare the shit out of you, but won't immediately incapacitate the car.
The original poster was right; this really doesn't sound like a bad cv. The classic symptom of which is the clunking sound most audible under initial acceleration with the steering wheel turned.
Did you say you did the clutch r&r yourself? If so, was the locking nut for the lower arm torqued properly with the car's weight on the suspension? You may have induced some binding noise there, or, the upper strut bearing may be about played and/or not be seated right. That's a sound you're likely to hear over speed bumps, for example.
How many miles on this car?
Good luck,
