If the VTEC motors were not meant for power why is that technology used in their race cars? Why do the Type-R's only come with VTEC engines? How come the NSX does not have a non-VTEC engine available?

Also you can make a non-VTEC motor rev as high as a VTEC motor but you are setting yourself up for one thing....a motor that goes BOOM!

stock for stock a vtec engine is superior to a non vtec. but wen u get into full time racing, its a whole different ballgame. Im not saying a vtec engine cannot be a beast. This is for you nonvtec haters.

Theres always a different preference for each person. most people(obviously) like the vtec engine but some other people(the few) will choose a diffent method of attack. More torque and power rather than high reving.

No a nonvtec motor reving as high as a gsr motor will not go "boom" thats y we invented something called "tuning"

Even with tuning you are still risking the motor. There is a reason that the VTEC motors have oil squirters below the piston...part of which allows the motors to rev so high. With out this the long term stability of the engine is compromised, unless you rebuild the internals every so often.

I do agree oil squirters do provide the blocks strength over a long period of time in terms of NA. but There are reliable aftermarket solutions to reinforce higher reving on nonvtec motors such as a girdle to protect the main caps against the severe sideloads the lower rod ratio blocks generate as you rev into the higher rpms which the more aggressive vtec cam lobe specs demand. Also with forged rods and pistons and rod bolts you can rev even farther then a gsr can.

After spending how much $$ though? Add the same or similar mods to a GSR engine and it will still be a better motor.

i have the very base model integra. Its an rs. no sunroof, ac, abs. i love it tho. i beat 5th gen preludes from a dead stop. From a rolling start its a different story but thats when i hit the nitrous and im gone. My model is the lightest model. its lighter than the type r which with the low end torque from the ls motor makes it a quick little car in the quarter. I would rather have mine than a gsr. Bc i can put a better engine in and be a lot lighter than other integras. Anyways, i never look down on a base integra bc i know they can be fast.

Dont get me wrong. Vtec is nice and so are gsr's but base models can hold their own too.

if you know how to drop a motor go find a RS that has no motor or that the motor is no good, and drop in a type R motor in it.
cheaper insurance ratesa and the power and reliability of a type R.

about reving a LS high, yes you could rev a LS as high as a gsr, but keep this in mind my R motor is reved up to 9600 rpm, pulls 206hp @ the wheels and when i come to a stop it idles really nice like its stock. i have yet to see a LS motor do that, sure you could make it with that hp but when you come to a stop the motor dies or it acts like it wants to die.
