Default im gonna get flamed hardcore for this one...

ok, i am really familiarized with my g2i.. i know my engine is a b18b, i know all of the engine codes and what they stand for. now, here is a question that i might get laughed at a ton for so please flame lightly

What exactly is v-tec, how does it work, and if its as benificial as everyone says, is it possible to convert my b18b to have vtec, and if so, what would be needed?

and i know vtec means variable valve timing... but what does that mean? are the valves hydro lifted?

Do a search for variable valve timing on:

www.howthingswork.com

I'm being serious; that site helped me considerably when I first got my car.

As for your second question, trying searching the forums for "LS-VTEC" or some variant on the same name.

Oh, and noone is going to flame you for asking a dumb question. But people will flame you for not searching and reading first.

Because I'm such a nice guy, here's a direct link for your first question. Took me 4 seconds.

In any case, read that.

LS-Vtec is just a way to add VTEC to an LS motor.

In my experiences with friends and reading and stuff, it's not entirely worth it.

OK, I'll keep this short.

It's VTEC. Not V-tec, Vtech, VeTEC, or anything else you can think of. You will usually get flamed for that, just giving you fair warning.

VTEC means Varitable valve Timing and lift Electronic Control.

Next, VTEC is good. The valvetrains are stronger, so they can rev higher more safely. They allso run two different cam profiles, one normal profile for low revs and it switches itself to a more agressive one for high revs, which makes it smooth around town and scream at the races. Very simplified.

Lastly, LS/VTEC is a good thing, if you invest the money needed to build so it doesn't blow up or leak oil (full rebuild, high-strength rods, new valve springs, proper oil line configuration etc.)

The great debate usually boils down to LS/VTEC vs boost. Boost will result in great power gains and, surprisingly, is usually more reliable. I can't count how many LS/VTEC horror stories I've heard.
