Default Note to self: show up to court dates

I got a ticket for my window tint being too dark a couple months ago. The fine was $100 and 2 points off my license, but I figured if I peeled the tint off (and took pictures), showed up to court and explained myself, I could probably get those points removed. Well, when the date came by, I was really busy at work and just spaced it.... it was somewhere in the back of my mind, but I just couldn't get my shit straight and go in. Bummer.

A couple weeks after my missed court date, I'm driving to work, and BAM, I get pulled over again. I explained to the cop that I already got a ticket (showed him the ticket), and I that intended to deal with it, but he decided to issue another one. Kinda a dick move on his part, if you ask me.

Today I went in and payed the fine for the first one, which was $255 since I didn't go to court... and I got the 2 points.

My next court date I'm definitely going to show up. My defense:

-I already payed $255 to the city for this
-I already took 2 points on my license
-Insurance may go up (I haven't heard anything from them yet)
-I removed the tint (albeit a little late)
-I am a safe driver, this doesn't relate to my driving
-I bought the car used, registered and inspected it, and at no time did my windows ever come up. I had no idea my windows were illegal until the moment I was handed a ticket for them (not entirely true, but plausible).

I'm hoping they'll drop the second ticket all together. I would be OK with a $100 fine, but $355 total for windows seems a little inappropriate. I'll be fucking pissed if I get 4 points off my license for safely driving a car with dark windows.

cliffs: got tint ticket, didn't show up to court, got another tint ticket, payed out the ass for the first ticket, assembling my arguments for second court date.

:werd: I thought you had pulled off the tint already? If you didnt, then this is all on you, they can write you a second ticket because the offense was not handled by the court date, your conviction date. SO this is a second conviction, odds are your going to be stuck with it, exspecialy since you didnt show up to first court date, teh judge is just going to think you dont care

how are they even going to justify giving you points when it has no direct connection to your driving abilities

although they could say it hinders your sight

In states where tint has legal limits its more for officers then for saftey reasons, lighter tint allows officers to make out drivers of vehicles easier, so by having to dark of tint it could be conceived that you have something to hide, hince the point violation, not saying i agree just saying thats the basis

I understand why it would be a violation, but tacking points on your record for that reason doesn't make sense though

Yeah, I'm not saying I'm not wrong... I know I fucked up, and technically the officer had the right to issue the second ticket. What I'm going to try to convey to the judge is that the punishment is too severe for the crime, and that I've already payed my due.

I never got a "fix it" ticket or a warning. And now I'm looking at getting 4 points (the same as a hefty speeding ticket) for something that has absolutely no relation to my driving.

Points for a non-moving violation? that's pretty harsh.
