Note to self: show up to court dates
I got a ticket for my window tint being too dark a couple months ago. The fine was $100 and 2 points off my license, but I figured if I peeled the tint off (and took pictures), showed up to court and explained myself, I could probably get those points removed. Well, when the date came by, I was really busy at work and just spaced it.... it was somewhere in the back of my mind, but I just couldn't get my shit straight and go in. Bummer.
A couple weeks after my missed court date, I'm driving to work, and BAM, I get pulled over again. I explained to the cop that I already got a ticket (showed him the ticket), and I that intended to deal with it, but he decided to issue another one. Kinda a dick move on his part, if you ask me.
Today I went in and payed the fine for the first one, which was $255 since I didn't go to court... and I got the 2 points.
My next court date I'm definitely going to show up. My defense:
-I already payed $255 to the city for this
-I already took 2 points on my license
-Insurance may go up (I haven't heard anything from them yet)
-I removed the tint (albeit a little late)
-I am a safe driver, this doesn't relate to my driving
-I bought the car used, registered and inspected it, and at no time did my windows ever come up. I had no idea my windows were illegal until the moment I was handed a ticket for them (not entirely true, but plausible).
I'm hoping they'll drop the second ticket all together. I would be OK with a $100 fine, but $355 total for windows seems a little inappropriate. I'll be fucking pissed if I get 4 points off my license for safely driving a car with dark windows.
cliffs: got tint ticket, didn't show up to court, got another tint ticket, payed out the ass for the first ticket, assembling my arguments for second court date.
