Rear speakers on a 93 Civic DX coupe
Did a search and found no relevant information.
Just wondering what is needed to install a set of speakers (I'm guessing 6.5") on the rear deck of a 93 civic dx coupe.
Already have the fiberboard cutout with the factory grill installed, I'm just not sure if there is supposed to be some kind of mount for the speaker to sit it in (like the front where it's mounted in a 'cage' and not directly on the door). Or do you just mount the speaker directly to the car?
Also, is the car prewired? I see a couple of wires at the rear of the car that require a harness for both, is this how the EX speakers are hooked up to the radio? Where do I get the other harness to hook up the speakers to the rear wiring?
I'm not an audiophile by any means, but just want something nice to hear in the car. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Most of the time the rear speakers are mounted right onto the sheet metal. There is no basket for the speaker to sit in. This is true for my Integra and the Accord my gf has. The car should be prewired. What color are the wires that you see? Check http://installdr.com to see if they are for the rear speaker. To wire them to the speaker you can do one of two thing. Buy a harness that goes between the harness you already see and the speaker. Or cut the existing harness of and wire them directly onto the speaker with a connector. You should be able to remove the plastic grill from the underside. There should be screws that are accessible from the trunk.

Alright thanks. I wasn't sure if I just bolt the speaker right onto the frame, or if it needs a basket.
I did a quick search and I guess there is some kind of a speaker adapter meant for the rear speaker deck for civics (part # PC2-825) so cutting and splicing and whatnot is not necessary.
Thanks for the help. :goodjob:

Just wanted to do a quick update...
I got myself a set of speakers from Crutchfield.com, that way I got the necessary hardware to mount a set of speakers to the rear deck of the coupe (speaker mounts/adapter and wiring).
Since I've already had the rear deck 'ready' for speakers (I got the cardboard cutout thing from an EX as well as the rear speaker grille kit from the dealer) it was just a matter of dropping in the speaker and plugging them in to the already wired rear deck.
I got a set of Kenwood 5.25" speakers and assembled them to the 6.5" mount/adapter. I wasn't absolutely sure what would fit back there, so I didn't take a chance of getting a 6.5" speaker to fit in there, so I just went with what Crutchfield recommended that would fit in the back of a 93 civic coupe.
Took apart the grille kit so I could mount the speaker. Since I didn't have a basket or whatever it's called to mount the speaker to the chassis, I had to fab a mount out of 1/4" plastic washers to raise the speaker unit off of the chassis since the speaker could not sit flush and I was worried about rattling. Then I used elongated bolts that fit through the plastic washer then used a bolt on the bottom end to secure the whole thing down.
Used the supplied wiring that came with the kit to connect the speakers to the existing wiring, then buttoned everything down by reattaching the speaker grilles to the 'cardboard' deck.
Fired it up and luckily everything was wired up to the deck and I now have sound coming out of the back of the car. :yay:
