Default Head Gaskets

i went out to jackindabox last night and when i rolled up into the drive-thru, i heard a feint knocking noise from my motor . I ignored it as i thought i was hearing things but when i tried to go out later that night i heard the same noise profoundly during 2500-3500rpm. So i parked my car and revved it up and my symptons were as follows

-white smoke coming from block
-white smoke coming from exhaust
-sputtering exhaust, lots of fluid coming out
-knocking noise at low rpms
-i also have low oil (but oil was recently put in)

I am assuming that i will have to replace my head gaskets but im not sure what else i have to replace and i also dont know how to replace gaskets and what tools i will need . Could some tell me what guides or tutorials i could pick up so i can try fix this myself.

or if you know of any shops in henderson, las vegas area

If you are losing anti-freeze, and oil. That could be a sign. Look aqround the baase fo the headgasket. Usually you will be able to see where it is leaking if it is leaking. If possible get under the car as well and just look all over to see where it's leaking. That will give you a better idea to find if it truely is the head gasket. On a Integra, just looking at it, it does not seem to be that hard of a gasket, unlike the grand am quad 4 motors which is a 13hr job on the head gasket.

If you dont feel comfortable doing it yourself, nor any of your buddies i would not attempt it. Trying to save $300-400 by paying someone, and messing up timing and possibly bending a valve will cost you more in the end. The hardest part will be the timing belt. WHich really is not hard at all. I have a Clymer manual, pretty good. I have done 2 head gaskets on 2 turbo Talons, and one on a Civic.

I would pretty much reccomend bringing it to a shop. The only "specialty" tool that you will need will be a torque wrench. Air tool make it alot quicker with the "wizzer" we call it to remove the old gasket material.

Sounds like your headgasket definitely took a dump on you.

I would provide a link to the Integra service manual PDF, but it isn't working right now. That would be a good thing to check to see what you need in terms of tools and how in-depth the job is for you. You can check the Civic forum sticky and it has the link inside there. Maybe it will start working again....:dunno:

I have done several B series headgasket jobs and they aren't hard, just labor intensive. I can get the head off in around 45 minutes, but putting it back on takes around twice that. You just have to be precise on putting everything back together how it was before.

i downloaded the service manual (94 integra service manual) and i just took a quick overview of section 6 Cylinder Head/Valve Train B18B1, the process seems to require a lot of labor. If i am able to get the tools and a new head gasket, how long would it take to replace it for a first timer and would the car require any tuning of some sort afterwards.....

It shouldn't take too long. I think my first time took around 5-6 hours using the manual.

You should probably take the head to a machine shop to have it resurfaced as it may have warped when the headgasket blew.

It could be the valves or rods. If it is the rods, you are in for a world of trouble.

Since the head will be off, I would go a step further and drop the oil pan and pickup assembly and check out the rod bearings.
