Default loose t belt

i got my t belt replaced last week along with the water pump..i drove it a few days and noticed a clicking nosie coming from the cam gears area and thought it was the valves..it turns out the timing belt was loose..once it was tightened by the installer the sound went away..well its a week later and for some reason i believe its loose again..when i push on the belt on the right side of the cam gears it appears to be tight but on the left side i can push it about an inch..thats loose right? how did it become loose so fast? steps on tightening? thanks

There is actually a part called a tensioner that the timing belt touches and you can tighten a bolt down on the tensioner and it puts pressure on the belt causing it to get tighter. But you might need to get a new tensioner.

Maybe you can have your mechanic check it out again and ask if your tensioner is bad.

As shown in the helms manual.

1. Loosen the adjusting bolt 1/2 turn

2. Rotate the crankshaft counterclockwise 3 teech on the camshaft pulley.

3. Tighten the adjusting bolt.

IMHO, the tensioner should be replaced with the timing belt. h:

If the tensioner were to fail, bad, no -horrible- things will happen.

Yes, definitely. Here's hoping it all works out soon.

Im guessing it means that if you are able to see the cam gears, turn the crank pulley counterclockwise until you know you have moved the cam gears 3 teeth. Then you tighten the tensioner.

Make sense?
