Default No engine in 94 LS, reliability a must, but haul ass factor very close second

Hi everyone, I'm fairly new to HAN and have appreciated it since I found it. I bought my first Honda in July 03 and bought two more Hondas and an Acura since then. Honda 4 life!!!

A few months ago I bought a wrecked 94 LS 5-speed. No engine/trans, seats, and hit bad in left rear quarter. It has the Thunder Metallic Gray that is exclusive to this year. I am currently a student in auto collision technology and decided nominated it for my project car. I welded on a rear clip from a non wrecked 98 GSR. Easier said than done. Off the subject, but everything went great (doors open and close like new). Anyway, now I have a shell with no engine or transmission. I am bent on killing V8 sports cars. I want a setup that is reliable enough to be trouble free for a 1000 mile trip, yet fast enough to kill Stang's. I have the p75 OBD1 ecu that is original to my car. Should I turbo a b18b with my modified chip or should I install a turbo H22A with an ecu from a different vehicle.

Stock reliability with turbo vs. there's no replacement for displacement with turbo.

Professional advice welcome. I appreciate any help. HONDA 4 LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:wavey: Good to see you back.

IMHO, skip the H22. The amount of fabrication needed to convert to the H's cable-shift tranny isn't worth it. Instead, I'd re-sleeve a B18B with Darton or AEBS sleeves, which can get you up to 2.0L displacement safely. Then do a minor P&P job on the head, forged internals, etc, and complete the turbo build up as you would for any built FI B-series motor. Then it's simply a matter of clutch, trans and drive axles.
Don't neglect brakes, BTW...if you're planning on 450whp, you'll need serious binders to stop the party. h: A cage would be a good idea as well.

My 2Ą.

Which turbo kit would be ideal for getting 450 whp and who makes the best turbo cam out there for this amount? Again, Thanks for any advice. I need all I can get before I start buying anything. Better to start out right.

I will probably set my limit at $10,000. I'd be doing most of the install myself, so I can save some dough. I won't be able to sleeve, bore, and deck the block of course.

I've read that stock Honda crankshafts and main bearings can handle quite a load. Does anyone know this for sure and how many horses can it take? If they can take a lot, then how much boost can I safely run on an engine with a stock crank, stock length rods, low compression turbo pistons and a bore of 2.0L? I need a setup that I won't have to worry about on a long trip. Will putting 400whp to the ground create excessive torque steer? Sorry to ask so many questions, but I am new and want to do everything right the first time. I really appreciate everyone's input.

Even for big power I'd stick with the B series.

With new sleeves? Just about as much as you'd like. In that scenario, you're going to be limited more by your head and intake manifold than anything else.

Offhand, I can't think of anyone who is using an aftermarket crank for stock stroke.

You know, one of the best books on building Honda motors - IMHO - is SCC editor, Mike Kojima's book:
Honda / Acura Engine Performance. PenguinPutnam, 2002.
ISBN: 1-5578-8384-X

One of the best technical writers alive IMO, Mike Kojima covers absolutely everything pertaining to building D, B, and H-series motors for racing and street performance....including discussions of bolt-ons to much more thorough Nitrous, FI & All Motor builds. He discusses the popular hybrid swaps, transmission gearing, drivetrains, virtually everything pertinent to your Integra build.

For $20, it's a steal.

10 grand just on the motor?

I'd say a B18C1 sleeved out to 84 mm with a bunch of forged goodies, and a turbo kit centered around a Garrett GT28RS turbo would do quite nicely.

I'd also pop for a Quaife differential, and some other assorted things.

Given the amount of money you're talking about I don't really feel like making a truly complete list.

well for an example..my brother just sold his 2.0 ls/vtec turbo integra..it put down 300@15psi and 257 tq..he had the block built..pistons (9. compression exactly), sleeved, rods..Custom XS Engineering T3/T4 Hybrid Turbo Kit. Inline-Pro Turbo Manifold, Tial Higher Boost Turbo Wastegate. XS Engineering Front Mount Intercooler with Apex-i Custom End-Tanks. Greddy Type-S Blow-Off-Valve..but he still had the stock gsr head so maybe that limited him but it pulled very hard..
