Default Rough Idle Could it be something called VSS?

I was looking around on other forums about the problem I have been dealing with for the past year almost. The problem is my car has the rough idle problem. It is a 99 Civic EX with like a 96 Civic engine in it ( I got screwed by a local shop just in case you are wondering why there is a 96 motor in there). At another forum one of the experts was telling this other guy with a similar problem to check his VSS and see if his speedo is hooked up correctly. Could this be the answer to my question? My speedo doesnt work completely and now that I can remember I think the rough idle on my car started right around the same time the sppedo quit working. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Should be located right on top of the transmission.

Ok so this could be the problem? If so how do I go about replacing this thing or making it work?

i believe there are many other factors to look into before referring to the VSS. i've always believed the VSS is only to send a signal to the speedo on your gauges and nothing else. i never knew it was connected to the idling system..

look into other sensors first.
