Default D16z6 JDM or USDM Question?

Hello, I have been reading around the board and it seems like most here are pretty smart about the JDM engines.

I just bought a 95 Civic Ex Coupe from a family member who did an engine swap because the original motor was blown...

I was told that the new motor was purchased in Texas and was imported from Japan with 30,000 miles on it.

I looked at the engine id codes and found D16Z6, along with a couple of other numbers, namely "HA" and the Tranny number (I think it's the tranny number) "S20-2354462".

I have found tons of info on the net about the motor with the D16Z6 id, but all of it has been about the USDM version, so my question is:

1. Does a JDM D16Z6 exist? If so why would the USDM version be a 1.6 and the JDM version be a 1.8 (I was told mine was a 1.8, but doubt it)

2. If there is a JDM D16Z6, how can I compare it to the popular B16 series, as far as specs like the HP and Tourqe?

Thanks for any help.

your D16 isnt a 1.8 unless there's some sort of stroker kit in it
if it would be a 1.8 it would be a D18

I see...

So the number break down, like the tranny numbers...

D = the Series
16 = the capacity (16 = 1.6 litres)

What does the Z6 mean?

Thanks for the info too.

not 100% sure but I think the Z6 refers to some sort on info on the head

cuz you got the D16Z6 and the D16Y8, same block, dif heads

and you can probably get a D16 from Japan
so there would be such a thing as a JDM D16
but i think it would have the same hp and torque

OK, I found the thread that has info on the numbers...

But now this:

Why is there so much bad talk about the "D" series motor, and so much good about the "B" series?

What are the major differences between the series? And...

If one was to buy say a 98 or 2000 civic and do an engine swap, what would be the best engine series to go after, cost not bieng the major issue, but the amount of tune-ability?

Thanks again.

that's not necessarily true.

The USDM D15B7 is a nonVTEC motor with about 107 chp.
The JDM D15B is a VTEC motor with about 130 chp.

Although they are both D15, the D15B has a longer stroke and higher compression. The intake runners are a bit larger too.

It's really just the generation/model of the motor. I don't think they have as much meaning as the first 3 digits in the code.

I've never heard of a JDM D16Z6. The JDM equiv. is like the D15B or the ZC.

All JDM motors that I've encountered do not have the final digit. For example B18C, D15B, B16A, etc.

hih

I dont think there's anything bad said about the D series
you just see a lot of different opinions
its an ongoing debate
kinda like the import/domestic thing

D series are SOHC and B series are DOHC, more hp more torque

if cost is not an issue go with a B series for sure or even an H or K series why not

Thanks again.
