Default timing question

i just put my cam in and got to the timing of the crank pulley and looked in the manual and it said to set it on the silver notch to the farthest right, but i could have sworn that it was supposed to be set on one of the other 3 notches to the left of that because it ran a little bit advanced. does anybody know?

If you're standing on the driver's side, looking toward the passenger side, the mark "furthest to the right" is TDC.

You're talking about ignition timing right? Spec for a D16Y8 is 12 degrees BTC, which is the red mark on the cank pulley, between the two brown ones.
