Default timing question

i just put my cam in and got to the timing of the crank pulley and looked in the manual and it said to set it on the silver notch to the farthest right, but i could have sworn that it was supposed to be set on one of the other 3 notches to the left of that because it ran a little bit advanced. does anybody know?

That furthest mark is TDC. The other marks are BTDC marks. When you're aligning all your timing, use the TDC mark.

When the car is idling, and you shine the timing light on there, it should be on the center of the three marks.
