I went to a classic car show, the other day, and it was boring as ****, EVERYTHING was a V-8. They all pretty much looked the same, it was boring.

Now many it was my un-trained eye, but still, I can't tell a big block from a small block or a chevy from a ford (that caused big problems)

The body styles were all ****ing sweet, but the engines were all pretty much the same...

American V8s have tremendous variety ... I used to be like you, PHiZ, until I started checking out like every book in the library on engines, and asking lots of questions at those car shows. It's amazing how much time people invest in getting to know a single engine inside/out. Years, literally.

The 350 outlasted almost every other engine because of its incredible versatility - it's not too heavy, can be detuned in times of emissions crises (70s), or times of highway safety madness (80s), yet can be brought up to huge performance levels with not so much work. Parts are ubiquitous for them ... you can find them everywhere.

I don't know how I feel about tossing them into every known chassis ever made. People did it with Volvos, which I used to be hardcore into, and now with Del Sols, too, eh? Madness.

There is a huge cult following for smallblock Chevy and V6 Turbo Grand National engines into RX-7 chassis'. Damn rednecks are afraid of the Rotary, so they put in the good 'ole smallblock. Needless to say, I hate the things.

I've always looked at the fiero in comparison with the g1 mr2, and I've always preferred the mr2 because it seemed more true to its principle--barebones and really lightweight.... But once you start thinking of v8 power and tractable torque, you think of it less as a roadster, and more of a highway monster... bigger, heavier, but extremely powerful. I think I'll probably end up tackling that project at some point before I croak... z06 power (or whatever the future holds for smallblocks) in a '80s mini-rustbucket

Anyone here ever seen pictures of the Fieros with Lamborghini body kits? I actually saw one of those in Frederick, MD. Painted pull-me-over yellow. Too bad it didn't have a Lambo engine too... but whatever it had, it wasn't stock.

I don't know much about the Fiero in general. What kind of transmissions/transaxles do they have? In other words, how would one go about swapping in a V8 into one without transmission problems?

Lastly, there is a house out in the country here that I pass every once in a while that has two rusty Fieros in various states of disrepair sitting in the yard. Every time I go by something has been changed. Sometimes one is on jackstands, or a body panel has been swapped, or the "hood" is up, or ...etc...etc... I wonder if the guy/girl working on that will ever finish whatever it is they're doing.

You can swap in any small block gm, using the stock fiero transmission (which apparently is stron enough to handle it), latitudally mounted behind the seats. Theres enough room for it lenghwise and widthwise because the fiero was designed to hold both inline 4s, and v6s. There are a bunch of outrageous bodykits for them (including lamborghini) you should go to v8-archie.com (the link I have listed up higher) and follow the links, theres tons of info to be had there.
