spiderwebbing on transmission.
the bell housing at the tip of the tranny on a swap we're doing for my buddies :db: has some spiderwebbing on it. it looks like the housing has been shocked or dropped in some way. he thinks he may have done it with a jack when he was trying to change the clutch, but that sounds weird unless he really ****ed up bad...
anyway, long story short i was told you could have it arc welded back together so the webbing/hairline cracks are gone. if this is the case do you know what costs would be, and would the tranny have to be empty for such a feat?

It could just be casting stress marks. What you really have to evaluate is whether or not it's leaking fluid through the cracks, and if the cracks go all the way through. For the latter, you'd have to disassemble the tranny to inspect.

yah just check for oil leaks if there arent any id suggest just touching up with jbweld in the particular cracks if u think they are bad at all, but trannies arent under pressure or nething like engines so simply filling the cracks should be fine unless u think itll breach structural integrity and cause something to fall apart, then the whole thing should be replaced.

Yeah, that just looks like surface stress to me. I wouldn't really worry about it, seen much worse before.
