Default spiderwebbing on transmission.

the bell housing at the tip of the tranny on a swap we're doing for my buddies :db: has some spiderwebbing on it. it looks like the housing has been shocked or dropped in some way. he thinks he may have done it with a jack when he was trying to change the clutch, but that sounds weird unless he really ****ed up bad...

anyway, long story short i was told you could have it arc welded back together so the webbing/hairline cracks are gone. if this is the case do you know what costs would be, and would the tranny have to be empty for such a feat?
