Default Need some advise...

For the past 3 yrs I've been researching possible swaps for my '99 civic EX. The only reason I bought the damn car was to swap out that engine. I've gone from h22 to b16 to b20 and to b18. Now I'm considering either b20 or b18 swaps. But I need some actual testimonials about both reliability and streetability for these two swaps. If anyone can give me some feedback that would be great. Here's what I'm planning with the b18: JG Pro Series 1.9 liter JE pistons, Saenz rods, JG Pro Series B16A head, JG 296/300 cams, Motec M4 Pro with 1600cc injectors, JG custom intake manifold, and XS engineering turbo. As for the b20 it'll be a little more difficult, basically with that I'm just going all motor. I just need to know if anyone has these or similar mods that can let me know how it runs. I have some basic dyno results on the b18 but I know that doesn't help much since its never been road tested.:naughty:

Both engines will be equally streetable and will require the exact same installation process.

its very difficult to get a turbo setup to be as reliable to naturally asperated setup, so if reliability is an issue then go that way. When you say B20 are you planning on swapping a vtec head?

Default b20 block

I think with the b20, I'm probably going b20 block with a v-tec head. But the problem with that is I'm afraid it won't be as reliable because I'll have to be salvaging parts here and there (i.e. b20 block, v-tec head, type-r ecu, type-r tranny, etc) which will probably not be as realiable as one full set from the same car/engine or whatever. But, honestly I don't really know anything anyway. I just started, sorta, with this whole engine swap thing so I guess I'm a newbie. Hopefully, I'll be able to learn something from this forum. hahaha. But, you're right though, I was sketching about the turbo because it's a lot of hassle to go FI. Function over form...thats the way I'm hoping to go.

The majority of parts you use will be OEM, and they function very well together. Stand back and tell yourself this is going to cost a lot of money. I can't believe how much I've spend on my LsVtec setup. I probably could've gone with a weeker forced induction setup, but this way, i'll be able to slam mustangs without saying them "thats not fair, you've got a turbo", but if you just want to go fast...then who cares what they say. I'll add my numbers up and tell you how much it's costed me so far

it IS going to cost a lot to build up that engine, but its an expensive hobby no doubt. The money factor made me think about just trying all motor on my stock d16 engine, but then a stroke of luck hit me last night when my friend told me that he could get his hands on a gsr motor (the last year before the rsx came out) for atmost $500. And its a brand new, never been raced, never been driven hard and is so clean you can eat off it. What do you guys think? Should I take him up on his offer?

I'll give you $600 for the motor, so either way, you win.

(I tried)

HAHA, if you want i can try and ask for something better...perhaps b18c for $1100 or b20 for $900? thats the price that was given to me when i asked. h22a for $1050 if still available while supplies last , void if prohibited, hahahah. the money isn't a big issue 'cuz i know no matter what it's going to cost me. the dyno and tuning alone is going to cost a grip anyway. $600 for the motor would be nice, but if i sell you the motor then you'll win and I'll lose (race-wise) hahah j/k
