Default Need help diagnosing problem

Ok I have a pretty good idea as to what it is but want a bit more clarification before I go drop $$ on a part.

On the way to work this morning I was driving along and suddenly I stopped pulling and my rpms and speed revved up. I let off the gas and they drop back down and then I started pulling again. It kept happening over and over until finally it would not pull at all. I pulled over and tried every gear with no sucess. My speed and rpms would o up but the car would not move. I belive that it is my clutch(God I hope so) and the other prob could be the tranny(if it is this I am screwed) Guys any ideas?

Also, if it is the clutch can I just replace the disk and not the whole thing??(I am extremely short on funds currently)

Yep, sounds like the clutch. Have you noticed it slipping lately? Unless you tear it up, they usually don't feel fine one day and then all of a sudden break. The surface friction wears out over time, so as the surface wears down, the take-up is slower and at a different point on your pedal. Also, I do not recomend just replacing the disc. When the rest of the assembly goes, you will have to pay the labor all over again to tear it appart and replace it (unless you do it yourself. Still don't recomend it, though)

I ran it hard last night and I think this is what caused it. Thanx for the advice, looking into either an ACT or CM stage 1 currently

Geez, how hard is hard? I've driven my car hard quite often and the factory clutch is still excellent at 63,000 miles. Unless you were dumping it at 7,000 rpm off the line and slam shifting, I don't know how to destroy a clutch in one day. Unless...... do you ride the clutch at all in every day driving?

If his speedo went up too, it's not the clutch. That means the gears inside the tranny are still turning.

Ok guys found the prob after we towed the car back to my house. Turns out that somehow, someway my axle popped out of the tranny. I know I know, I am as stumped as you guys and I have no idea how this happened, but I got the car up on jack stands this morning, turn the wheel until it let me slide the axle back in. Everything works ok now(only thing is now I need new brakes) My uncle helped me tow it back with his truck and he rode the brakes the whole way back(approx 10-12 miles) and killed my brakes(so bad that they were smoking and had no pedal feel at all until they cooled off) So instead of having to buy a new clutch I have to buy new rotors and new brake pads(front and rear*rear only cause it is about time to do it)
