Default Piston Install: SUCESS

Yesterday (fri) morn. i dropped my new jdm itr pistons and old piston/rod assembly off at the machine shop, by 6pm i had them back and was ready to accomplish the imposible
Lets just say, i had no help and am very tedious about my work, by 5:15am the following morning she breathed new life as a newborn NA baby! After 8 hours in traffic school at 6am that same day, i came home to break her in and change the oil. After about a 20 mile journey of below 4k runs at half throttle she purrs like a kitten, and is begging to be wailed on.
Just thought id share my excitement, for all who dont know, i pulled the pistons last week in my driveway, I had to wait til fri to get an appointment at my local shop. Installed the pistons Fri night into an unhoned block (45,000mi) so far so good! Waiting 500 mi. to do a comp. test, then ill slowly open her up. After being up for around 37 hours i think its time for bed. . . peace :loco:

Ps. the plan now is for a skunk2/portflow setup for the head + hondata

I'm wondering the same thing. Your piston to wall clearances are bound to be off, and you probably won't get a very good ring seal. Did you take the time to do your ring end-gap?

Yes i did do a ring end gap test for each cyl. they were well within spec. The motor stayed in the car, low cash flow, and way too much work, thats why it wasnt honed, i talked to numerous machine shops around here and they said it wasnt neccesary with such low miles ( if it was truly neccessary i would have waited until next winter when i go to school) . Im not afraid of it losing power due to the unhoned block, reving only to 4 grand i can tell you already it pulls alot harder than the old pistons. Im itchn to rev that thing out, it takes allot of dicipline to hold back that lead foot of mine.

I dont have exact numbers to what they would add to a perfectly working motor, my old piston rings were not in the best shape, the #3 cyl was about 40 off of the rest of them. So i can feel a big difference, at least down low. I paid 373 for the pistons from inlinefour.com and 40 to have them pressed on the gsr rods, i did the rest, i just had to buy oil, i had assembly lube and thats it!

did you replace the rod bearings??? and I was under the influence that if you want the rings to seat properly that you kinda need to do a few hard pulls so that the rings expand under pressure and seat themselves. no honing worries me though. whach your oil consumption and see if you burn oil.

new rings in an old bore, I'd say wail on it right now to help force the rings in the bore and get a good seal....

im up to 400 miles on the new setup and everything is perfect, oil consumption is non-existent and still looks brand new. The first break in miles i did do a couple of hard pulls to 4000rpm. Im up to 7000 rpm now and it feels soo nice, i never knew pistons would make such a difference, but i did have poor comp. before. Everthing is all good so far, oh and i did not replace the rod bearings.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA! You didn't even replace the bearings? Good luck with that one!
