92 Integra GS-R Header/Muffler
Hello everyone! I'm a new member who just shelled out 3K for
a 92 Integra GS-R. I am intrigued by the DC Sports custom header/muffler assembly which THEY SAY will increase H/P by 15 or so. I also want to bolt on a DC Direct Air Charger. My question.. IS IT WORTH IT? Will my dash idiot lights freak out?
Will I damage the engine? Do these types of upgrades make the car quick? Or...do they ultimately retire a reliable, good looking,
sporty car to the dump that much sooner? Thought you were the
right guys to ask. The Acura Mechanic said.."Don't do it".

Acura guy is crazy, stupid, jealous, or.. I don't know. None of those mods will hurt the car in any way, at all. I had a '92 GSR also (what color is yours?) and that stuff, all typical bolt-ons, are completely harmless. As for 15 hp...well, maybe if you're REALLY lucky, you'll get 15hp from all three of those mods (intake/header/exhaust), but it's unlikely.
As for "is it worth it"... I can't answer that without knowing how much they're asking for it.
None of them will make your 'idiot lights' come on, either. Will it make the car quick? Well...quicker than it is, I suppose. But I'd say go for it... DC is pretty reputable. What's up with your Acura mechanic? Hmmmm....

Thanks for your reply. I guess the acura guy was one of those
"don't fix it if it aint broke" people. The GS-R is white with a charcoal cloth interior. Its got 120K and almost no rust. It should be a pretty good "project" car. Did you have to replace your radiator? My previous Integra, a '93 LS lost the stock radiator at 130K. Other than that, these seem to be very good cars. It looks like I'll owe DC Sports about $900 for the add-ons. I'm no mechanic, but I assume its mostly socket wrench type work. Your thoughts?

How is it possible that you lost the radiator at 130K miles, yet you only have 120K on the car?
Beside the point.
I just bought a '92 Integra too. Actually, I put $500 deposit on it last Saturday, and I won't pick it up from her until this coming Saturday. She needs to get it MD inspected. This is my first car, and I know crap about this stuff and I'm trying to learn as much I can in as small amount of time possible. I want to do the same exact thing to my car; add a header, exhast, supercharger, etc. In fact, I made a list of exhausts, and the like, that are available for the '92 Integra. I want to learn to do it all myself, but I'm scared that, because of my ignorance of this stuff, that I'll mess it up.
I have no idea why I posted this reply. I guess I'm just anouncing to the world that I know little about cars, and that if you see me post a stupid question, then don't act like an @$$ and give me some smart @$$ remark. I need all the help I can get.

Please note...I lost the radiator on my "previous" Integra, a 93
LS...at 130K. Not that big a deal, but I've heard that radiator replacements are THE MOST common ailment on high mileage late model Integras. It cost me $200 bucks and a tow to fix. Anybody else back me up on this statement? My current
project, a 92 GS-R has 120K and a scary lookin radiator neck. Don't worry. Most replies to me on this site have been civil. THERE IS allot of experience to be shared on this site. Experience can save newbies with a dream, like me, $$$$!

My radiator: 115K and it was out. It absolutely is the single most common ailment - right on, rlschi36. Incidentally, mine also died at school, the coolant fried against the block and made this sickeningly sweet steam rise up, it was a nasty smell. I miss that car a lot...
NVS, where in Ellicott City are you? My dad lives in Sykesville, and goes through Ellicott City allllll the time. I can help with certain things (the basic bolt-ons), but supercharger is beyond me. What else is on your list?

Right off of 103 on Worthington Way. It's like a mile or two away from the shopping center(Safeway, Kohl's(where I work), Target, etc.) next to 29 and St. John's Lane.
I haven't really got my car yet. I'll see it in my driveway on Saturday. But what I want to do is put a new header, exhaust, wheels/tires, and just clean it up. I want a super/turbocharger on it, but I don't think I'm ready for that yet. Besides, I'm only 17, don't even have provisionals yet(although I'll be getting it next week), and this is my first car. Also, I'm only getting like 7.50/hour at Kohl's and they don't schedule me enough hours, so I wouldn't have much money. Like I do already(not!). I'll probably only have enough to pay for insurance and gas.
I would like to replace the speakers too. That would be fun. I also really want to add a body kit and wing/spoiler. To at least make it look fast. It'll take me awhile to save up the money for this stuff. :squint:
Oh yeah, what does that avatar on all your posts say? Just curious...

NVS, go turbo and not SC, when you get the $$$. I also have loooong range plans to go turbo (D16z6 in my Del Sol).
Man, I wish my first car had been my GSR. Instead, it was a slow slow slllow 1982 Volvo 240 DL, 5spd. Actually, though, that car ended up being my best friend... it would take any punishment, laugh, and keep rolling. It was seriously tank-quality construction on those old Volvos... In my other Volvo (a 740 Turbo), I demolished a friend's iron-and-aluminum shed (parking brake failed when I was inside his house), without a single scratch to the paint of the Volvo. I've always been tempted to get another 240 (they're only like $800 now) and use it for my beater car.
The 92 Integra GSR was the rarest of the GSRs, it was a limited production run. Mine was red...
Anyway, as for your mods... exhaust and headers are relatively cheap. Probably $250 for each if you shop around, or even less if you find a good deal on eBay. Intake is even cheaper, and easier to find cheap also, unless you are dead set on getting an AEM CAI at retail price. Rims - variable. Turbo, for a whole G2 GSR kit, is usually in the $2000-$3000 range. People like us (saving up nickel and dime at a time) take like 5 years to save up for a damned turbo, unless you go the build-it-at-home junkyard route. That can be tricky, though... do some searches here on HAN, and you'll learn tons more.
Lastly, the avatar is Arabic for "Del Sol"...actually, Arabic doesn't have an "e" or "o" sound (thus Usama and not Osama)... so, technically, it reads "Dil Sul"... but if you say it aloud, it sounds almost the same. I study Arabic (though I'm an English major) at UMD-College Park... in my second semester of it.
