Default Redline tranny fluid

Which transmission fluid would be best for my 5 speed transmission? 80 or 90 weight?

Honda MTF is nice. If you're going to be using Red Line (which is indeed good stuff) then stick to their MTL, and not MT-90.

I just put in some redline MTL, I hope it does wonders.

But I dont see a difference really. I think it only does wonders when the tranny is all messed up to begin with, cause it doesnt seem to help my downshifts any.... maybe just me.

What is wrong with the MT-90 Redline fluid? It states that it is made for front wheel dive vehicles.

i believe its too thick. Cuz honda MTL is closer to 5w30 oil, and the Redline MTL is about that grade too.

you'll want to stick with what ever is closest to 5w-30 or 10w-30 which is what the Honda Service Manual recommends.

Have any of you guys ever looked in a service manual? even the cheap ones from Autozone tell you what kind of fluid to use.

Honda transmissions will use either Honda MTF or (as manual stats) A 10w-30, type s/sh grade compliant motor oil. Honda trannies DO NOT AND CAN NOT run with the heavier weight (80-90weight) trans fluids.

Yeah, that's what quite a few of us have already stated.:slap: Read the previous posts:fawk:

To be anal, I have the actual Honda Dealership Service manual from Honda Press and it states to use either 5w30 or 10w30 motor oil which is API rated SF or SG Grade... that's why a number of us have said not to use the MT-90 and to stick w/ Redline MTL which is equal to 5w30/10w30.

So to answer your question, yes I think we have looked in a service manual.

And the cheap ones from Autozone, Discount, Pep Boys, etc. are not all that clear:down:... some say to use gear oil (vague much?)
