Default CEL when eliminate cat - What happens?

Hello
I am new to this forum, it´s looking good. I have a Honda Civic Type R 2002 (k20a2)

I want to buy the Spoon 4-2-1 Header and then it will eliminate the cat. My car will then trow a CEL and my question is: Will the ECU make my engine go in to a limp mode or something? Is it safe to keep driving the car with the CEL on when I know what it is? (Beacuse I know that it is the catalytic converter thats missing)

Thank you for your time...

The ecu might not go into limp mode, but it may compensate for the missing cat by running rich. I had a CEL due to a gutted cat for a while, but it did not affect my times. Hope that helps. If you have 2 o2 sensors, you can try running the second sensor to the first hole and plugging up the one where the cat would go, or just let it be.

I remember seeing a nice little gadget called an "oxygen sensor simulator" for use when removing one of the sensors. Plug it into the sensor harness and voila, no more CEL. I think it costs around $30, not sure where you would be able to get one though.

The ecu will run in openloop. Basically lots of fuel, because your secondary O2 sensor is telling your ecm that your primary O2 sensor is giving an unreliable reading. All the O2 sensor simulator is, is a resistor put in line with your secondary O2 sensor, basically simulating the effect the catalyst would have on your O2 levels, and tricking the ecm's comparator circuits into thinking that everythings hunkydorry. Of course you're going to be illegal for emissions purposes, etc etc... and the fine is $25,000 dollars and jail time for modifying or removing a stock catalytic convertor, etc etc. Thats just the standard disclaimer which I'm sure you already knew though.

His IP address traces back to Sweden, so conceivably the vehicle code there is slightly different.

I had the same problem w/ 01 Civic EX, CEL taken after 2nd long trip. I left the light on for a week when i was going to purchase the o2 Simulator from "Diablo Motorsports". The day I was going to purchase the sim the light went away. I have the HP 4-1 Race w/hi flo cat. So this could possibly work out the same w/ your civ. Try running it a week with the light on, see if it goes away...
