The ecu might not go into limp mode, but it may compensate for the missing cat by running rich. I had a CEL due to a gutted cat for a while, but it did not affect my times. Hope that helps. If you have 2 o2 sensors, you can try running the second sensor to the first hole and plugging up the one where the cat would go, or just let it be.
