Need Help Troubleshooting? Engine rattle.
I have a '95 Civic EX (1.5L) and it is making a noise that sounds like a bearing rattle in the motor. It gets louder with the RPMs but is not present at idle. It kind of sounds like a marble knocking around. No loss of power and otherwise runs great.
Could it be anything with the alternator, AC, or timing belt area. It has 96,000mi. I'm being hopeful.
Any ideas of what to look for would be appreciated very much. I am mechanically inclined but have not done much on Hondas (they never break
)
Thanks in advance!!

Sounds like a loose timing belt and/or valve out of adjustment.

Could I do the timing belt at home or are special tools required? Two different people have mentioned to check the water pump. I've never heard of a water pump making this type of noise but I'll listen to any suggestions. Thanks for your reply!
