Default advice on this setup please

right now my GSR has just an intake but by next summer i should atleast have skunk2 stage 2 cams in, and probably a header and exhaust. is it necessary for me to tune the engine with say, a VAFC? if not, would it atleast be beneficiary? just curious if i can put the cams in and drive around for a while without tuning cause itll take me a while to save up for a fuel computer. thanks for any help in advance guys, you rock

Are you OBD-I? For a $150 or so more than an AFC, Hondata S100 would offer you a lot more tunability. You'd need to get either tuned on a dyno to realize the best gains.

Get the header and exhaust first. Then save up to get the cams and a fuel computer (I too, like the Hondata s100) and adjustable cam gears to go along with the cams. You'll also need stiffer valve springs since those particular cams have a ton of lift. ITR outer springs with Portflow inners will work well. Add a couple dyno pulls and some professional tuning of the Hondata and you've got a good setup.

Just bolting the cams in and driving around is kind of pointless, especially since they require at the very minimum upgraded valve springs and you won't get nearly the full benefit without tuning.
