Default Shifter skewed!

My shop is installing a B16A gen 2 JDM engine into my 93 del sol si. It's installed and I am just waiting on a replacement distrib. The shifter is listed to the left and has lots of resistance. The mechanic says he is using 94 del sol vtec linkages. What is likely to be the problem?

Shouldn't be leaning to the left but it should feel nice and tight when I put mine in it was real nice no slop.Did the linkage come from the same car as the motor?Maybe it got bent during delivery you never know.Just go through it and recheck all the connections from tranny to knob.
