I'm not certain, but I think the B16 heads have a smaller compression area. Basically, your compression is greater than with the B18C1 heads. Higher compression, generally more horsepower. However, if you got the B18C5 (Type-R) head, you'd have that and a factory port job, which is the best of all. Not to mention if it came with the Type-R valvetrain. I guess another popular combo is the CRVtec, where you get the benefit of increased displacement, with the vtec, better flowing heads, etc etc.

Rooster, you got it backwards. The B18C1 head has the smaller combustion chambers, resulting in a higher compression. IMO, the Type R head isn't worth the money people want for it, when you could just go find a bare b16 head for CHEAP, get a nice p&p job and new internals, and voila you have a better head than the ITR....or you could even do that with a GSR head but they are harder to find.

Dubster is exactly right...

The b18c1 head has a smaller combustion chamber, yielding a higher compression ratio.

the b16a head has the same combustion chamber volume as the ITR one, so u can just do what I did and save some chingeros... which is, get the cheaper head and throw fresh ITR valvetrain inside... unless u go Titanium... Then well... ;-)

Harry

btw, off topic, but don't let everyone scare u from doing the LS/VTEC, I did forged internals, etc. fresh bearings obviously, but mine's running nicely and I love it ;-)

Just something to keep in mind ;-)

autotec, you decided to keep your car I gather..good for you! FastAcuraChick...Don't buy that GsR head, I've got one I'll sell for cheap with a brand new rebuild. 450 bucks. I've also got a b16 head with type r cams complete for $650. e-mail me at kanga_rod@hotmail.com if you are intrested. I've also got an LS bottom end if you're looking for one, it's got all the parts and shiz ready to go for LsVtec, you'd save yourself lots of money and pain if you picked it all up at once (from me, hehe)
