Ewww... grinding...
My 2001 GSR swap into my 2000 civic grinds when i shift into 3rd at high RPMs, anyone know what it could be? or how i could go about fixing it?

Syncros mein...syncros...about $400+ to fix, might as well do a FD upgrade while the tranny is apart as well, like the 4.9 FD from jdmhondaparts.com. Makes it much quicker.

Are you familiar w/ the way rear wheel drive cars work...your tranny has sent gear ratios but your rear end is the easiest to change. Have you ever heard a Mustang guy say he way putting a 3.73 gear in his car??? MUCH more aceleration...now put this in Honda perspective, changing your 4.4 FD that is stock in your GSR tranny to a 4.9 FD will tremendously increase you acceleration and keeping the GSR gearing will still keep the revs decent on the highway...this mindset helps the Type R so much, a steep FD combined w/ great gearing for an allmotor car...put it simple, it'd be like adding 25 hp w/ o actually adding 25 hp, thats how much better it would accelerate.

I gotcha, thats what i thoguth but needed to make sure. If im planning on turbing eventually you think it would be better i didnt change the gear ratios at all?

The gearing he is talking about is from the JDM ITR Spec R motor. I put this tranny on my friend B18C, and it really does help with acceleration, and the B18C is a joy to drive.
The FD (Final Drive) ratio i believe is 4.7, not 4.9. The 4.9 is the ATS final drive. I presume, I don't follow it too much.
Anyways. For turbo the gearing is too short. You'll accelerate quicker but you won't hold the boost as long. You'll go through the gears too quickly. I personally like the GSR gearing better for turbo, but others perfer LS (even taller gearing).
I'd advice against putting the 4.7 FD in your car if you are gonna turbo.
BTW I have the grind, same as you. If you are gonna go for a rebuild go with GSR tranny replacement parts, or you can look at custom gearing from Kaaz, but the are very expensive.

Yea that swap put a huge hole in the wallet and still is... so i think im just gonna replace with GSR parts, due to that i do wanna turbo eventually and the fact of being a poor bastard.

I'm noticing mine grind into gear even at about 6000 or so rpms.. before i only did it when i was at redline in 2nd.
if i shift really slow with the clutch fully engaged i can get it to go into 3rd with no grinds as long as i'm not redlining it.
i usually don't shift into 3rd gear fast unless i'm racing someone, or at the track..

Yea its not something i often hear but it just sucked the first time punching it and shifting to third and hearing the horid sound of grinding. I guess ill pay off my swap them get that fixed. Who knows...
