Default Car smokes on my fresh complete rebuild... ?

Freshly built B18C1 block with new hone, rings, and bearings... new head for the most part with new dual valve springs, and titanium retainers.

New fluids, and oil of course... I was told I had some oil in the intercooler from the old setup. Now at start up the motor still smokes, white smoke that is... we haven't run the motor long considering the new setup is untuned and is dumping fuel into the cylinders.

All 4 cylinders are wet, but only 3 spark plugs are wet. Food for thought.

The turbo only has about 600 miles on it. I don't think it could be the oil seal on the turbo, not yet at least.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

What is the setup? Is it just an OEM rebuild or does it involve forged internals? We need more information to diagnose it. Give us as much as you can.

the current setup is...

  • Upgraded B16A head with JG titanium retainers and JG dual valve springs
  • Rebuilt B18C1 block with new ACL race bearings, and fresh hone and new OEM piston rings. Stock internals.
  • ARP head studs
  • Honda OEM head gasket
  • Edlebrock Victor X intake manifold
  • 70mm Throttle body
  • Lovefab Mini-me turbo manifold
  • T3/T04 57 trim .48 AR turbo
  • Tial 38mm wastgate
  • Custom intercooler piping
  • Large front mount intercooler
  • GReddy Type RS blow off valve
  • Rc 550cc injectors
  • I had an AEM fuel pressure regulator on, but was told it was not needed and was replaced with a brand new honda OEM one
  • Currently no catch can is hooked up

Motor setup...

Car itself with the intercooler...

explain all of what u did when u fired it up for the first time??? Did u turn the motor (after pulling the fuel pump fuse) to get oil pressure? Did u let it fully warm up (fan comes on twice, lower hose hot) Then when you drove it for the first time how did u drive it? The first 20 miles are the most crucial when it comes to engine break in. Use this site for engine break in procedure. Break In. There will always be some smoke when u first start it cause the ring have be seated.

I never drove it and "I" didn't start it up. My mechanic did the rebuild and he started it up.

I originally had the car with this setup, but it smoked when I would take my foot off the pedal or rev it a bit at idle. We tore it down and found a bad ring / scratch on the cylinder wall of cylinder 3.

It was honed and new piston rings and bearings were installed. The upgraded head was installed, and so was the turbo setup.

When the car was started for the first and second time, the car wasn't drove at all, the injectors were dumping fuel into the cylinders, except cylinder 4, it was dry. Raw fuel was coming out of the exhaust.

The next day the car was started again and revved once or twice. When it was revved, blue smoke came out and I believe raw fuel was still coming out. The car still has not been taken out of the drive way.

I don't know if it could be old oil possibly still in the turbo manifold and it is just burning off, or the rings seating, or possibly in addition, the open PCV on the valve cover.

The car wasn't run for long considering that my mechanic said that the raw fuel could potentially ruin the rings. So the car was started up, revved once or twice, and smoke came out. The the car was shut off from what I have gathered from the info I've gathered from my mechanic.

This is your problem, Rings dont get seated by reving. You HAVE to drive the and put a load on the motor. Read that link i put in my first post, follow that, and hope that u haven't used up the roughness of the hone(crucial part in ring seating)

I will call my mechanic and see what all he did last night to help seat the rings. Yesterday he got the fuel dumping issue resolved, so thats another good step forward. Thanks for the help so far guys!
