PCV system for turbo
Hey guys,
I've just finished rebuilding my B16 motor with fresh OEM bearings, and I'm stumped on the correct way to route the PCV system.
My main question is, should there be vacuum or pressure at the valve cover breather at idle? I don't see why I have pressure at this opening. According to the Honda manual, the diagram for the PCV system shows flow arrows in both directions for the valve cover breather, but it seems alot of gas is exiting thru the valve cover breather hole.
Right now, I have air being forced out of the valve cover breather. I have an oil line hooked up from the black breather box (on back of engine under Intake Manifold) into the PRE-turbo pipe (not pressurized). There is NO pcv valve.
As it is the car runs great, but with the PCV air being forced out of the valve cover, the smell seeps into the car and it is very noticeable. Usually this is burned in the motor, being drawn into the intake manifold under vacuum, but since I'm boosted is this pressure out of the valve cover normal?
Any suggestions?

There should be positive pressure coming from the breather at idle. There are holes that lead from the head directly to the crankcase, so you will see pressure being relieved there in addition to the PCV valve.
Here are your options. My current setup is pretty much identical to yours except that I am using an open breather Moroso catch can to catch all the crap. For my engine build, I am going to remove the breather box and run the two ports from the back of the block directly into a catch can.
You will have to deal with the smell if you are venting any PCV pressure to the atmosphere. The only two ways to avoid the smell is to setup the intake slashcut or downpipe/exhaust slashcut.
