Default ls vtec turbo

hi i've been researching on ls vtec turbo some sights say ls vtec turbo is a great build up and some say it a piece of crap that it's not relieable does anyone know a shop to ship my block and have them build it but that won't put a hole in my bank account and it will be relieable is it that people don't break it in right or it's that hard to build what are your thoughts on ls vtec turbo what should i do i can get eagle crank rods and srp piston for a grand brand new i was thinking of going with that setup and i have a 2000 si head i'm going to send it to get build i'm aiming for 350 to 400hp i want to be able to boost 20 pounds all day 25 to race no more than that let me know what you guys think

lsvtecs can be reliable when built and tuned correctly. a boosted lsvtec just needs some extra TLC.

if you want an experienced shop to build you one it's going to be costly. just to give you an idea check out these shops...

www.laskeyracing.com
www.importbuilders.com
www.goldeneagle.com
www.exospeed.com

that should be plenty to get you started for now.

IMO, LS/VTEC's aren't reliable (or nearly as reliable) as a Honda engineered product.
In short, the LS vtec is nothing more than trying to use extra displacement with VTEC in order to produce more power.
What most people don't realize is that the VTEC engines are DESIGNED from the factory for extremely high rpms... This doesn't mean just stronger parts etc...
Yeah, you may be able to make more power than a B18C if you have a properly built LS/VTEC but it won't last.
Why do you think Honda spent tons of $$$ developing the B18C, designing it for high rpm use, when they could have just slapped the VTEC head onto the LS block?
Exactly.

honda engines arent designed for boost either. but people still do it, the right way, and have no reliablity issues.

if you build it, take care of it, and tune it the right way and dont drive like an ass everywhere it will be reliable.

i love people that talk out there ass.

ls/vtec can go forever. when you hear aout so many failing its because people dont read and dont know what there doing...like the guy on ht that posted up today that he has oil in all his cylinders and cant figure out why...low ad behold he didnt plug the oil hole on the head...a basic step. its not a cheap setup but if you actually do some reading it will last just as long as anything else.

It's pretty clear that you have never put an ls/vtec together because it's way more than "slapping" a vtec head onto an ls block. And the only thing you have to do to make it a reliable daily driver is use GSR or Type R rod and crank bearings because they were DESIGNED for extremely high rpms from the factory

Not to mention the fact that Golden eagle makes a conversion kit with instructions so that people don't do somthing stupid like not plug the oil squirter!!

Wow, you must be a psychic... LOL

You are right, I have never and will never build an LS/VTEC because I know it is unreliable, period.
If it's "way more" than slapping a head on an LS block, explain what this "way more" is???? An extra oil line? Please...

The fact is the LS was not DESIGNED for high rpm use, so it will fail prematurely...
Just to illustrate what I'm talking about when I say DESIGN, I mean that for example the rod cap bolts in the LS Do not get torqued nearly as high as those in both B18C and B16A engines. Torque on bolts = clamping force... So right away you can see that the LS was not intended to be used at high rpms, because the increased momentum will cause more stress on the bolts...
In case you didn't know, momentum is dependent on 2 variables...
M= 1/2mv^2
So, you can easily see that the momentum is most easily affected by the velocity of the rotating mass... Go twice as fast and you got 4 times the force... Get it yet?

So if you wanna run you LS/VTEC at 8k rpms, go ahead. it is only a matter of time that you will ruin the motor...

if you think you can rev a stock b18a/b block to 8k you're bound for failure. that's why people that know what they're doing replace the rod bolts with arp bolts if keeping the stock rods. forged rods virtually eliminate this problem. a balanced crank also helps. a main girdle helps even more. the weakest link in the b18a/b bottom end are it's small rod bolts. not the crank. not the rods.
